15 months old

March 17th, 2008

Today Avery had his 15 month old checkup. He’s still scraping the bottom percentiles on size. Doing great on milestones:walking, spoon/fork holding, words.

The stats:

Words (not all completely clear yet):

I didn't do it.

covered, head to toe

After the playing with flour for a while, after being covered with teething biscuit, and self-feeding some prunes we took him straight to the bath with prune pieces still attached. After an initial wash down to get the flour, I started draining the water to get out all the flour. It didn’t seem like it was draining as quickly as usual, so I felt around the drain hole to see what was up. I felt something squishy, so I pulled it out thinking it was a piece of prune. Well, it was not. Apparently, those prunes had gone to work quickly, it was a poop! I’m thinking about going to scrub my hand again.

Playing with flour

September 29th, 2007

I get these emails from babycenter.com telling you about activities and milestones. This week’s email suggested a fun activity for our 9 month 2 week old would be playing with flour. So we put down some newspaper to contain the mess, stripped him down to the diaper, and let him have at a small pile of flour. After half a minute or so, his interest moved on to ripping up the protective newspaper. Either way it was messy and a bath followed.

Number two.

September 29th, 2007

Avery has been quite a, well, pain in the ass lately. Poor guy. Tooth number two can be felt now and he’s not feeling too thrilled about the whole teething endeavor. And I think he may be coming down with a little cold again (runny nose, a little more coughing than I’d like). Needless to say, this was his general expression most of today:

check please

No photographic tooth sitings yet.

I attempted to take a picture of Avery’s first tooth. It looks like number two will be joining it soon.

Stats

September 22nd, 2007

We went to our 9 month check up last monday. He’s a long and lean baby.

He’s not crawling yet, but he moves around by a combo of rolling, spinning on his belly, and occasionally pushing off with one leg. He’s doing the pincer grasp (though it’s not perfected yet) to pick up food. He’s quite a babbler. He spent one whole trip to the store blowing raspberries constantly. He likes to play the “lets push the toy on the floor and whine until someone picks it up, then repeat” game. He looks for stuff that falls on the floor.

He is, however, small. He’s above average for height, right at average for head circumference, but not even close to on the chart for weight. The fact that he’s constantly moving (and burning calories) doesn’t help. The doctor isn’t worried, because he’s steadily gaining weight, he’s just not making up any weight, and he started at the bottom of the charts for gestational age to begin with. Given that I was a very skinny baby and kid, it may just be that he has my metabolism. Weight gain slows down after 6 months anyway (since they’re more mobile). We’re just supposed to get lots of fats into his diet whenever possible. Needless to say, the fact that he LOVES yogurt is working in our favor.

you can almost see he has a tooth now

the tree of life

Well, actually you can’t (sorry we tried). It’s official though. The first tooth has arrived! Number two doesn’t look that far behind. Watch out if he gets ahold of one of your fingers to chew on, that little sucker is razor sharp. And yes, we’re still breastfeeding.. for how long now?.. that all depends on the little guy and his tooth.

he loves the tags

September 22nd, 2007

this one has a neat tag

Avery loves anything with a tag. He loves to examine the tags on all his toys. The tags are also his favorite part of the dogs.

The dogs are starting to cash in on this whole baby thing.

sharks circling

Avery started eating some finger foods a week or two ago (little cubes of cheese, fruit, teething biscuits). As you can see, the dogs have figured out that beneath the highchair is a good place to sit. In fact, I have caught Mia licking Avery’s teething biscuit, but I think he’s been offering it to her because he knows it gets them to come over. Mia has even stolen it from him when he’s hanging it over the side not paying attention. Nadia is such a good dog though. She sucks up to him and sits and waits for him to give her a treat because she’s being such a good sitter.
