Vvvvvvvvvvvvvvac---cuuum!

June 5th, 2008

He actually says it like that. Sometimes he outdoes himself on the lead in. VvvvvvVvvvvVVvvvVvac! Avery is literally obsessed with the vacuum cleaner. He remembers where it is when the door is closed and can literally entertain himself with it for an hour. When he gets woken up unexpectedly sometimes, he wakes up and says “vac!” which makes me think he dreams about the vacuum too.

Actually, he’s kind of at the age where cleaning seems like a ton of fun because he loves the broom too, and putting things, anything in the trash can (toy or otherwise). He also likes to carry a bag of paper recycling down to the blue bin. He was freaking ecstatic the whole walk to the recycling bin carrying the paper bag, putting the stuff that fell out back in. He copies one of the older kids at daycare and says “i’m cleanin’” while he pushes the broom around. This weekend at the toy store we picked up a kid sized broom and dustpan. At another toy store I’ve seen a vacuum cleaner toy (has a girl on the box of course), but it was almost $30 so I let Ave play with it a while and then passed.

They also had real, but kid-sized rakes, shovels, and hoes, but that seemed like an emergency room visit waiting to happen.

Hello, Computer.

March 19th, 2008

Normally, Avery stays away from the computer and just looks at it suspiciously from a few feet away. It’s the major non-babyproofed part of the living room, so he has been told no and taken away from it enough times to realize. But I was sitting there and he was pointing at it curiously and felt ok to go to it. First he pointed at it and said “that”, and then, he bit it. ??

Hello, computer. Getting to know the computer

Today Avery finally acheived domination over tags of the world.

October 27th, 2007

Today we went to Cary to do some shopping and eating. We were planning on going for some south indian food, and we had to wait until 5 when they opened. For some reason, all indian restaurants seem to close from 3-5, which is also generally when we decide we want to eat. So we decide to go to Old Navy to pick up another fleece hoodie in the next size up. Corey was letting Ave play with a plush toy from the baby section. He went to put it back in the bin after a minute and we take a closer look. Half the tag was missing. We couldn’t find it anywhere on the floor, and it had suspicious bite marks on what remained. We’re pretty sure he ate it.

I didn't do it.

covered, head to toe

After the playing with flour for a while, after being covered with teething biscuit, and self-feeding some prunes we took him straight to the bath with prune pieces still attached. After an initial wash down to get the flour, I started draining the water to get out all the flour. It didn’t seem like it was draining as quickly as usual, so I felt around the drain hole to see what was up. I felt something squishy, so I pulled it out thinking it was a piece of prune. Well, it was not. Apparently, those prunes had gone to work quickly, it was a poop! I’m thinking about going to scrub my hand again.

Avery thinks sneezing is hilarious.

August 26th, 2007

We discovered that Avery thinks sneezing is one of the funniest things he’s ever seen. It’s up there with the Cookie Monster song, and saying “kiss” in Chinuk Wawa. He also likes putting things in his mouth whenever possible.
